Understanding the Reasons for Action Research

Action Research is hands on research that is used to compile data to get a better understanding of the subject matter being studied through measurable assessments and experimentation.  This type of research enables professionals to carry out inquiries they might have regarding a subject matter and be a part of collecting the data needed to see if change is necessary or implementing a program is needed.  Action Research is also used by professionals to help them gain a deeper understanding of particular programs and areas that they wish to address. It is grounded on the realities of educational practices and is based on collaboration of educational practices.  It is used to clarify and diagnose practical situations and improve the effectiveness of what is already being used and not working.   The Action Research Plan should be planned with specific guidelines. The data from the research should be carried out over an extended period of time to make sure it is accurate with reflections on the research during the time of the plan.  The end results of the research should always be measurable and documented for data at that time and for future reference.  The professional that is developing the Action Research Plan is a vital part of the research, and they need to ensure that the data is collected and measured correctly.  Once the Action Plan has been completed, the professional can review the results for accuracy to make a judgment on what is needed after the research is complete.

Educational leaders can use blogs to discuss topics with colleagues.  Topics can be discussed and individuals have opportunities to share their thoughts and opinions.  This enables mentoring among educational leaders and fosters learning between one another.  Blogs serve as a tool for community learning through forums for collaboration of ideas to discuss certain topics.
